Electric Gate Installation in Hull & East Yorkshire

A driveway gate is the one piece of security equipment guests, couriers and burglars all meet first. We install, automate, service and repair electric gates across Hull and East Yorkshire — sliding and swing systems for homes, farms and commercial sites, commissioned to the BS EN 12453 safety standard with documented force testing. And because gates rarely work alone, the same installer wires the intercom, the access control and the cameras: one survey, one contractor, one system that actually talks to itself.

Sliding and swing electric gates

Swing gates remain the default for driveways with depth behind the gate line — underground operators keep the hardware invisible, arm operators keep the budget down. Sliding gates win on short or rising driveways, wide commercial openings and anywhere cars park close behind the gate. Timber, steel and aluminium leaves are all supplied, or your existing gates can be re-hung onto an automated system where they are sound. The site survey measures run-off space, slope and drainage before we recommend either; the wrong choice on a sloping East Yorkshire driveway is an expensive thing to discover after installation.

Gate automation for existing gates

If you already own a decent pair of gates, automation is usually the economical route. The survey checks leaf weight, hinge and post condition and ground levels; where the gates can take an operator safely, we fit underground or arm-mounted automation with the full safety package. Where they cannot — rotten rails, failing posts — we say so plainly before any money changes hands.

Safety and compliance — BS EN 12453

An automated gate is legally machinery, and gates that have crushed or trapped people are well documented in HSE casework. BS EN 12453 is the standard that governs powered gate safety: force limitation tested at defined points on the leaf, safety edges and photocells protecting crush and shear zones, and a manual release for power failure. Every gate we commission is force-tested against the standard with results documented in the handover pack — the paperwork an insurer, landlord or HSE inspector will ask to see. Gates installed years ago with no safety edges at all are a regular sight on surveys; we upgrade those too.

Domestic driveway gates

For homes across Hull, Anlaby, Kirk Ella, Willerby, Beverley and the wider East Riding, a gated driveway adds security, keeps children and dogs off the road, and stops the drive becoming a turning circle. Entry is whatever suits the household — keypad, fob, video intercom answered from a phone, or automatic opening on a recognised number plate. Tidy cabling and a clean finish matter on a home install, and our engineers are DBS-checked as standard.

Commercial and industrial gates

Commercial sites bring heavier duty cycles and harder questions: staff and visitor entry that does not need a receptionist, ANPR-triggered opening for fleet vehicles, intercom release from inside the building, and gates that fail safe during a power cut without trapping anyone. We install sliding gates, barriers and bollard-protected entrances for yards, depots and office car parks across the Humber region, integrated with access control so gate credentials live in the same system as the front door.

Farms, rural and equestrian properties

East Yorkshire's rural properties bring their own gate problems: long driveways where the house cannot see the entrance, plant and tack worth stealing, and power supplies a field away from the gate line. Solar-assisted operators handle remote entrances without trenching mains the full length of the drive, GSM intercoms release the gate from a mobile without wiring back to the house, and a camera at the gate line covers the approach. Yards near the Humber get marine-grade hardware specified from the start, because standard fixings on a salt-air site corrode visibly within a couple of winters.

Entry options — keypad, fob, intercom, app and ANPR

How the gate opens matters as much as the gate. Keypads suit family driveways and trade entrances; fobs and in-car transmitters suit daily users; a video intercom lets you see and speak to a caller before anything moves, answered from a handset or a phone anywhere; app control opens the gate for a delivery while you are at work; and ANPR opens automatically for recognised plates — useful on both fleet yards and private drives. Most installs combine two or three, and all of them can be added to a gate we automate later, because the control wiring is planned for it on day one.

Gate servicing and repair — any installer's work

Gates stuck open before a weekend, operators burned out, safety edges flattened by a delivery van, intercom release that stopped working after a router change — we repair and service automated gates regardless of who originally installed them. An annual gate service covers force re-testing, operator inspection, hinge and track wear, and the safety devices, keeping the BS EN 12453 evidence current.

Why Flextec for electric gates
